Protecting Templates - Why Bother?

There's been a fascinating discussion on the Administrator Noticeboard recently about whether or not to protect the Template namespace because of that vandal who targeted it the other day.

What's the point?

When you have Elliot the Thick making changes to one of the site's most widely used templates, live, on the wiki. Well done, EtT. The site's job queue is up over 24,000 thanks to you.

Have you never heard of sandboxes?

  1. Oh Elliot, you're so predictable. Run along, little man. Stop trying to do things you don't understand.

  2. It's one of the site's most-used templates because it's used a hell of a lot on the few pages that use it. That's why the pages that used it weren't even getting generated fully, leaving big blank spaces at the bottom.

No, I wasn't the vandal. I get more lulz writing this than by screwing things up. After all, with Elliot around there's always plenty of fuckups to write about.

"Hoe" else? By writing it in a sandbox on the wiki, dickless.

  3. You don't even edit the wiki (outside of vandalism), so you the hell are you to tell them how to run it? STFU and get a life.

  4. I made quite a few edits in the past and I still make the odd one here and there. And I don't vandalise.
