Rawtart Makes Sense! And then fails again

It's a well-known fact that even a broken clock is right twice a day, but when Rawtwat the Vicious makes a sensible point... well I don't know, since it's never happened before.

There's been a little spat between Elliot the Thick and DStebbins, an irritating little person who sprays his personal opinions over UESP like a farmer spreading cowshit on a field. DStebbins made the point that zero-weight items give an infinite "value ratio", which is what UESP calls value divided by weight. EtT removes the comment with the edit summary "you can divide by zero, so this make no sense", staking a further claim to his "Thick" label, but at least he followed up with "dummy edit; I meant can't divide by zero". There was also a whole discussion on EtT's talk page, where even the LGA missed the point.

Elliot (and Timenn), of course you can divide by zero. Wikipedia has a whole article on the topic, and maybe you should both read it.

It's left to Rawtwat to reinstate the point and explain why. Unfortunately, and remember that this is an admin, he doesn't know how to link to categories. No, not like this... or like this... and it takes new editor Nx to show the way. So close, Rawtar, and yet so far.

Thanks to the person who emailed me pointing this one out even though it dragged me out of my holiday. Yes - at least one person has worked out who I am.

Nothing Interesting

Wow. What a boring few days. Apart from The Great Deceiver trying to prove what a good little boy he is and Elliot the Thick doing yet more useless crap nobody cares about, almost nothing has happened.

I'm off for Christmas now so I probably won't be doing any updates. Merry Christmas everybody and I'll see you all in the New Year!

The Great Deceiver Breaks the Site

A record-high job queue and one of the servers out of action. Surely it's an Elliot the Thick template session that caused it, right?

Wrong! The Great Deceiver admitted to being the one who single-handedly killed most of UESP over the past couple of days. In his post, he refuses to specify which template caused the problems, but I'm more than happy to oblige: it's this one (I'm linking to Wikipedia since it's going to be deleted off UESP soon).

TGD whines that he didn't expect a template taken from WP would cause such a problem. Perhaps if he had looked at where the template is used on WP, he would have discovered the answer is "almost fucking nowhere" and "literally fucking nowhere" in article space.

Good job, TGD. Perhaps you can give lessons in teh st00pid to Elliot?

So Farewell, Then, Robin Hood

Elliot's Bitch has decided to throw in the towel. What will Elliot do next time he needs defending, I wonder?

To be honest, he won't be missed very much. He did a small about of fact checking but mainly spent his time adding badly thought out opinions to talk pages and absolutely not wanting to be an administrator.

I don't wish him harm so I hope he recovers from his illness. I'm sure there are more productive ways for him to spend his time if he does.

Elliot Annoys User: Film at 11

Let's see... the day has a "y" in its name so Elliot the Thick has been annoying people again. Today's victim is yet another anon, in this case, 68.215.87.128. The complaint is that EtT removed some stuff from the god awful 100% completion page. There have been a rash of IP edits on that page lately, so it's tricky to tell exactly which one the anon is complaining about.I'm guessing, though, that this one was by the same anon. I can't explain exactly why I think that...

Elliot, as usual, can't resist a rude reply, but then Elliot's Bitch pops up on schedule with a typically pointless post. Strange how often this happens. Evidently E's B feels a desperate need to protect EtT for some reason.

The funniest thing about this set of posts is from the anon, though. "I'm over 40 and a master of all aspects of pc use". Yeah. Except your grammar checker.

Ratwar and Timenn?

It seems that, not content with attacking the lowly peons that make up most of UESP, Rawtwat the Vicious finds it necessary to attack his fellow admins. First target? LGA! According to Timenn, Rawtwat bitched in IRC about a preference Timenn expressed for new images uploaded by Elliot the Thick.

The question is, exactly what did Rawtwat say? The other question is that since he hasn't edited on the wiki in three days, why does he find it necessary to criticise other users in IRC? Oh, that's right. He's a vicious thug.

Rpeh Follows Elliot

Oh dear. Looks like the break hasn't helped The Great Deceiver's template skills.

At least when Elliot the Thick screwed up the book templates the other day it wasn't affecting every single book page. TGD's screwup on Book Author hasn't helped the job queue much.

The Warnings Policy had a funny little exchange between The Great Deceiver and Rawtwat the Vicious yesterday:

In fact, TGD has a good point. You now have to go back a month to find the last time Rawtwat made a proper contribution to a page - and even further to find an edit that wasn't a revertion. Pretty pathetic.

On the other hand, did TGD really think that was going to work? Or was he just making a point?

The Great Deceiver Returns

Well... he's back.

Judging from the flood of faintly sickening praise on his talk page, most people are glad to see it. I'm going to keep my opinion for now. Let's see whether or not he's going to do anything useful or just bang on about how good he used to be.

Protecting Templates - Why Bother?

There's been a fascinating discussion on the Administrator Noticeboard recently about whether or not to protect the Template namespace because of that vandal who targeted it the other day.

What's the point?

When you have Elliot the Thick making changes to one of the site's most widely used templates, live, on the wiki. Well done, EtT. The site's job queue is up over 24,000 thanks to you.

Rawtwat Prepares his Defense

Oh dear. Using Wikipedia as a notepad isn't a very good idea.

Admitting that you can't undo the block because you'd look silly only goes to prove what a vicious thug you are.

Is this something he's preparing to post on the wiki, like his previous attack on Aristeo (here and here), or is it a private email he's too stupid to realise he has made public?

Only time will tell.

Elliot and Useless Actions

You know... I wish I didn't have to write so much about how useless Elliot the Thick and Ratwar the Vicious are, but they provide so much ammunition!

Rather than do anything useful, EtT decided to upload new images of the controller buttons. Why? What was wrong with the old ones, except that they were the right size and EtT has decided to upload images at (eg) 150x150px when they're only ever used at 20x20px?

He also uploaded images for the image licenses, like this and this, ignoring the fact that nobody gives a shit!

Lastly, he uploads images for the warning / block notices like this and this. Why? EtT asks people to comment if they disagree with his actions. The Last Good Admin tells him he's an idiot, and EtT replies in typical style.

Elliot. Stop messing about with stuff that doesn't need to be messed around with. You're too thick to do it.

Template Insanity!

Three posts in an hour... I leave UESP alone for 5 minutes and see what I have to catch up with?

A few days ago, Elliot the Thick created a new template for Oblivion Editor Ids. Ignoring the fact that this is a totally stupid idea for a minute, he has tweaked it, ending up with yesterday's edit that took the total size of the template to 85.3K!

I'm not going to bother telling you what a stupid idea this is. Anybody who knows anything about MediaWiki (and Elliot the Thick claims that he does) knows this is a site killer.

Let's see what MediaWiki says about templates, shall we? "If you have standard texts you want to include on several pages, the MediaWiki template feature comes into play."

EtT's template puts a different piece of text onto each page that uses it. Just how thick do you have to be to think this was the right use for a template? Oh - as thick as Elliot the Thick. Of course.

Assume Good Faith, Rawtwat Style

Rawtwat the Vicious violated policy by extending a block when there was no proof that he was blocking the right person. I mean the most central wiki policy of Assume Good Faith. Rawtwat is assuming bad faith.

He seems to know about AGF - at least, this post says he does (but note the qualifier - "we're supposed to assume good faith" (my emphasis), but how does he explain this post where he says "No matter what Rpeh has done for the site, he has become a disruptive vandal, and I plan on dealing with him like one". Anybody else who said anything like that would be banned.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Ratwar is out of control. He is violating policy and making decision according to his own agenda. He needs to be removed from power before he does real harm to UESP.

I'm still not convinced that The Great Deceiver was innocent, but I hate the hypocrisy more. Ratwar has become a liability. He does nothing for UESP and is now trying to drive off good faith editors with his violations of policy. Get him out.

Elliot the Thick... Clever... Thick

It seems I might be misjudging Elliot the Thick. Maybe he's not stupid, just schizophrenic. Follow his posts on the Administrator Noticeboard and see what you think:

22:05, 30 November 2009: I agree with the month block extension, and I think that a month should be added each time the block is circumvented, in addition to a reset of the block.

00:15, 2 December 2009: I, personally, don't believe this is rpeh.

00:38, 2 December 2009: Yes, and I am against an extension.

19:58, 4 December 2009: Plus, even there is consensus, policy states that it is Ratwar's final decision. The block ends Sunday, so I believe that any further conversation hurts more than it helps.

Oh - and if you check the Block Log, it expires just after 9pm on Monday. Given the time difference, that means he can't post until Tuesday. You really are thick, Elliot. Go back to eating paste.

Ratwar Blows His Chance

Rather than taking his pwning like a man, Rawtwat the Vicious decides to do what he's always criticised The Great Deceiver for doing... and invokes policy!

Well it's good to see you read the page at last, Rawtwat, even though it took you months to do it. You seem to be quite happy violating the policy yourself, but when there's a consensus (minus you, because you're such a twat) you jump on anybody who violates what you think should be policy.

In case you missed it, Rawtwat is invoking the "If there is disagreement among administrators, Daveh should be asked to make the final decision" clause of UESP's blocking policy. The trouble is, Rawtwat my little love, there is no disagreement. All the administrators agree that you're acting like a moron, and only you disagree with that. You're the odd man out now.

It's Rawtwat's Big Chance

I'm not going to link every diff, but this debate would seem to be Rawtwat the Vicious's last chance before he loses all credibility.

Rawtwat is demanding the right to insult, block and generally smear anybody he wants. Everybody else that has commented so far is trying to find polite ways to tell him he's being an idiot. He has even gone so far that ^CEshe^V, Elliot and Elliot's Bitch have told him he's being too vicious.

The Last Good Admin has had some reasonable things to say, things that RtV called "discouraging" although that should be expected given what a vicious idiot Rawtwat has become lately. Nothing yet from GK the Silent or Nephele the Pious, but that's par for the course.

It looks like this will be a case where a blocked user takes on an administrator... and wins. Rawtwat has lost a huge amount of his remaining credibility and The Great Deceiver must be feeling slightly smug given the number of people that have supported him (even Elliot's Bitch has had nice things to say for once, although his new user idea was the single most st00p1d thing suggested in UESP's history).

RtV and EtT in Perfect Harmony

If anybody needed any further proof that calling Elliot "Thick" and Rawtwat "Vicious", it came last night.

Elliot the Thick yet again ignored everybody else and went ahead making a shit load of minor changes without discussing it with anybody. (I can't be bothered to include all the links).

Some anon (and I get bored typing that - please can you create accounts?) reverted all his changes with the perfectly valid reason "Change made with no discussion - this is the site standard: do not change it without involving others" in each case. It also posted on EtT's page, basically saying "don't do that without discussion".

All perfectly good wiki behaviour from our latest anon friend, right?

Wrong. In the hypocrisy- and paranoia-filled world of modern UESP, any dissent is ruthlessly trodden underfoot.

So first, we get EtT reverting the comment on his talk page. The anon reverts; EtT reverts - you know how it works by now. EtT can't stand it when people tell him he's wrong.

Next, Rawtwat the Vicious blocks the IP (for no violation at all) and in a particularly fine example of paranoia, decides the anon was Rpeh, so re-blocks him too.

The anon points out at length that Rawtwat is a stupid fuckwit, and appeals the block... which Rawtwat finally acknowledges while making plain his belief the IP is Rpeh. Of course, the anon is blocked so can't contribute to the debate except by posting on its talk page - again, typical vicious Rawtwat. Despite a few requests for its comments to be moved from its talk page to the place where the debate is happening, Rawtwat refuses. EtT makes a typically ungrammatical post ("similarities are way too much"? Starting a sentence with "And"? For a self-proclaimed grammar nazi, he's utterly shit at grammar). He then takes time to spit in the anon's face before our friend decides he's had enough.

Meanwhile, Elliot the Thick re-does his own changes - still with nobody else getting to make a comment.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Elliot and Rawtwat are out of control. They are making up their own rules and applying them as they see fit. Both of them need removing from positions of power before all good faith editors are driven off.

Rawtart makes Another go for teh Stoopid

This is a bit out of date, but it's something I noticed a while ago anyway.

Rawtwat the Vicious can't spot the difference between an IP address and an account. Look at block notices like this, this, and this all state that a named account is really an IP address.

Look, Rawtwat, I know you're pretty stupid but you're gonna have to fight Elliot for the stupid moniker. If you really want, I can make your nickname "Rawtwat the Ugly and Vicious", but Elliot the Thick keeps his name for now. Okay?

Get a Life

As you might know, if you read the comments on this blog, Elliot the Thick has a habit of adding the phrase "Get a life" as if he thinks posting a meaningless phrase is going to affect anything, anywhere, in any way.

Well his eloquence has influenced at least one person. An anon editor replaced the content of over 300 pages with that little gem of a phrase yesterday, taking time out to spank Jplatinum16 and S'drassa along the way as well as (I'm guessing) fellow anon 68.204.32.141 (the page has been deleted but given the number of "warnings" that 68.* gave, I imagine some choice words were used).

Eventually, ^CEshe^V gets her ass online and makes the block, to which our anon chum gives a quick reply before (amusingly) questioning Eshe's block reason of "Excessive vandalism".

It goes to show what intellectual lightweights post "Get a life" time and again. Yes, EtT, I'm thinking of you.

Sic Transit

A few months ago, Elliot the Thick got roundly spanked by The Great Deceiver for changing the sic template without discussion. Once Rpeh got slung out, EtT revisited the issue and a horde of little minds joined in. EtT's basis for wanting the change was "Frankly, the second parameter has not reduced the number of removals". This, of course, is rubbish. The reason editors who actually know what they're talking about, like Nephele and Rpeh, wanted the spelling included in the first place was because there used to be a huge number of spelling "fixes" when it wasn't there.

Roll forward a month and what do we find? "Hmm", opines Krusty. "It seems that we have had several unnecessary edits to the pages already. Since these edits are clogging up the page's Edit History, I think we should consider mentioning the correct spelling like we used to do."

Next time, EtT, don't pretend to know what you're talking about.

Rpeh was Right About one Thing

One comment The Great Deceiver made during the other night's epic bitch fest was "I find it interesting that both of you have put more effort into this one discussion with me than you have in trying to improve the site over the last couple of weeks. Tells its own sad story really."

In other words, Rpeh's belief that the whole thing only took place because it was him is probably true. I know his post was about Eshe and Elliot's Bitch rather than Ratwtwat, but it seems more applicable to the latter. Not that EB has done very much in any case.

Eshe and Ratwar violated God knows how many policies that night and should both be removed as admins.

Oh dear - Dickhead's Back

Just as the site was getting better, Elliot the Thick rears his stupid grin and starts bashing his head on the keyboard in a futile attempt to type accurately.

First up there's a pathetic attempt to reply to being bitch-slapped on his talk page, then he's back adding categories to pages that don't need them and that nobody cares about.

Total waste of space. Again I say "Fuck off" EtT - the site was better off without you.

What the HELL Happenend???

Wow. All hell broke loose on the site last night. I don't know where to begin!

It all seems to have started on the Admin Noticeboard, where an anon posted a massively naieve request for Rpeh to be allowed back. After a typically rubbish post from Elliot's Bitch, up steps The Great Deceiver himself!

Rpeh then goes on an image cleanup spree, fixing the worst examples of the images SerCenKing uploaded the other day, and - and here's the rub - leaving a post on SerCenKing's talk page. Unfortunately for Rpeh, it linked here!

There then followed just the kind of blatant administrative abuse that has become UESP's stock in trade in recent months. ^CEshe^V deleted the link here (" removing unnecessary link to inflammatory website inappropriate for many of the uesp's users") which, as Rpeh pointed out, is nothing to do with an admin on UESP (or anywhere else). We end up with Elliot's Bitch and Rawtwat the Vicious both removing the link too. The debate moves to EB's talk page (and thence to a sub-page) and briefly on to Rawtwat's talk page.

The whole thing ended with Eshe and Ratwar violating the Blocking policy (again!) by blocking Rpeh for a week, including fully-protecting his talk page.

I'm informed that at this point the debate moved to a private channel in IRC, but I don't know what happened there. Some anon also popped up and started trolling, but I can't be bothered with that.

The point is this: Rawtwat the Vicious is out of control. I've said it before, but the man clearly has no regard for wiki policy and issues blocks whenever he feels like it. It seems now that ^CEshe^V has joined him in doing that. For blatant abuse of administrative powers, both of them need demoting soonest.

And the kicker? SerCenKing didn't mind Rpeh's posts at all. Meanwhile, the site goes into the gutter.

The Curse of UESPWatch?

Oh dear. I praise Eshe and then she fucks up almost immediately. Then I praise Timenn... and guess what happens?

A few days ago, new user Kalrot did some good research and added Riekling names (from Tribunal), names from Shadowkey and Morrowind plug-ins, and names from Redguard to the Lore:Names page. Today, Timenn deleted the Redguard names with the odd reason "Not common (single occurences)".

Kalrot has added a very reasonable comment to the talk page that says "WTF?" in particularly polite fashion. Most of the names on that page are one-offs. The few that aren't (Morrowind and Oblivion versions of Volanaro, for instance) get brought up time and time against as people try to invent relationships between the two.

Is the Last Good Admin about to lose his title, leaving UESP without anybody possessing two brain cells? Talking of which, professional idiot Elliot the Thick has reared his thick head again in the last few days, both on UESP and on WP. Fuck off, EtT. Both sites were much better without your semi-literate bullshit.

SerCenKing's Images

SerCenKing seems like a nice enough guy. He's done some good stuff on the site, and knows what he's doing when it comes to reverting / correcting content.

But he sucks at making images.

Take a look at the latest batch he has uploaded. Now look at the images he replaced. First off, he uses the comment "Better resolution image" a lot, which is misleading as most of his images are smaller than the existing ones. If he means that the aspect ratio is better, then he should say so. Second, if it's just the aspect ratio that needs fixing, why not download the existing image, crop it, then re-upload? Because thirdly, the images he has uploaded are uniformly dark and look rubbish.

Others have commented on this in the past (and I can't be bothered to go back that far to find the posts) but he doesn't seem to learn. SerCenKing, stick to the text.

Rawtart Gets Worse

We have an update on the Worst Edit Ever. Rawtwat the Vicious replies to the poster with probably the rudest, most obnoxious comment ever to come from a UESP admin: "I'm sure when my balls drop I'll see the logic of your position". This utterly blows apart UESP's Assume Good Faith (where you're supposed to assume that "The person was trying to do his best") and Etiquette policies, which states "Be patient and courteous".

Holydoon Witch decides he can't take this level of abuse so Rawtwat spits in his face to make sure he stays out.

A few hours later, an anon comes along and (justifiably) tells Rawtwat off. At this point, there's no response but I imagine a warning for the anon, deletion of the admonishment and a general "I'm an admin so I can do what I want" will be Ratwar's response.

As I have said before: Ratwar is out of control. He needs to follow Elliot the Thick out of the site, ideally with his admin rights stripped by people who actually do follow policies.

Worst Edit Ever?

I know newbies aren't usually considered fair game but this pile of crap edit from Holydoom Witch must be one of the worst edits ever made to the site.

Apart from the utter disregard for grammar and inclusion of irrelevant stuff like Japanese Samurai swords, we have fascinating nuggets of information such as "axes... don't depend on the sharpness of the blade to inflict damage on an object". So when the Knights who say "Ni!" asked King Arthur to chop down the mightiest tree in the forest using only a herring, he should simply have looked for a heavier herring?

And how about "Then, a sword is designed to give cuts, may be deep ones, but not for the 'chop' action, that cuts the object into pieces"? That's right boys and girls, swords can't cut things into pieces.

Even that might not be enough to justify pouncing on the n00b, but after Rawtwat the Vicious cleans up (some) of teh stoopid, we're treated to a long rant on Rawtwat's talk page (in four posts) that... well I'll let you read it yourself.

Ratwar takes on Elliot

Purely in terms of stupidity, I mean.

This is a great thread. "I'm pretty sure Sutch and Kynareth refer to different places", says Rawtwat the Thick Vicious. "I was referring to Sutch being devoted to Kynareth of the Nine Divines", explains Mptrj patiently. "Well, don't I feel stupid now?", replies Rawtwat.

I'm sure you do. And you look pretty stupid too. Moron.

^CEshe^V Fails at the CS... and Reading

Finally. Something worth mentioning, even if it's only a minor thing.

Relative n00b Nikofeelan decides to add Hieronymus Lex to the various Anvil factions because he moves there during the Thieves Guild quests. Now that's wrong, because those pages are only supposed to list initial conditions, but at least the intent was good. Along comes ^CEshe^V and removes Lex from the factions list... then she removes the factions from Lex's NPC page with the edit summary "i cannot find any evidence of him joining, please verify before re-adding".

Perhaps she should look a little further up the page, where it states:

"When Hieronymus is reassigned to Anvil at the end of the quest Taking Care of Lex, he ceases to be member of the "Imperial Watch" and "IC Citizens" factions. He instead becomes a member of the "Anvil Citizens," "Anvil guard," and "Anvil castle residents" factions. His inventory is also changed to contain the keys and armor appropriate for an Anvil guardsman. Finally, he loses his essential flag and can therefore be killed."

In other words, not only did she fail to spot the obvious scripting that affects Lex in the quest, she also failed to spot the even more obvious big hunk o' text already on the page. And that's not very good.

Welcome-fest

I knew ^CEshe^V spams a lot of welcome messages, but right now, fully 165 of her 500 most recent contributions are welcome messages. That's one third. Ridiculous.

Short post I know. I just wanted to justify the nickname I gave her.

Can This be True?

Rumours reach the panopticon at UESPWatch Towers that Rpeh is about to be approached regarding a return to UESP. I'm mentioning it because it's UESP-related news, not because I believe it.

I still haven't made my mind up whether I believe Rpeh or not. My head says "he did it" but my heart says "why would he?". Either way, I don't think there's any way The Great Deceiver can work with Elliot the Thick. If the only way Rpeh can come back is by The Powers That Be kicking out EtT.... I can't see it happening. As my last post pointed out, there's not enough activity from other admins at the moment. If Rpeh came back, they would need to be looking over their shoulder all the time.

Can't see it happening... but it's still interesting!

Nephele is on an epic wiki-break. Rpeh has left. Wrye has left (did anybody notice?). Rawtwat is doing nothing except being vicious. Eshe.... welcomes people, warns people... but that's about it. Even GuildKnight seems to have vanished. Just as well the Last Good Admin is around.

Seriously, it's him and a couple of n00b patrollers right now. Since Elliot the Thick has vanished lately, why not get Rpeh back? He was a PITA but at least he made sure the content was accurate... often to the point of OCD and beyond.

I'm doing this as an example of why it's pointless to tell you who I am because you're only going to accept the name if it's one you already agree with. There's no point coming up with a name that won't settle the debate either way so just call me "Tiber Septim" and stop bothering me.

A Diamond and Three Bits of Glass

Why is it that the best stuff seems to happen when I'm not around?

Anyway. To prove that I'm not just negative, today's post will be saying nice things about ^CEshe^V. Of course, there will still be the usual bile about the three morons of the apocalypse, Elliot the Thick, Rawtwat the Vicious and Elliot's Bitch.

As I pointed out earlier, EtT broke several pages when he (for no reason at all) added categories to the sub-templates used by the Chart template. EtT evidently reads the site (one word at a time, carefully sounding out each letter as it appears, no doubt) because he finally decided to do something about it. Undo his changes? Err... no. Fix his changes so the spacing worked? Err... no. He changed each affected page instead (that's not all of them but I can't be bothered doing the lot).

There's a fairly obvious problem with this approach. As the Chart Template says, it was copied from Wikipedia and differs from WP's version in two specific ways. Now there's a third, undocumented difference that will, I guarantee it, come back to annoy people later on.

What happens next? An anon pops up on Elliot's talkpage namechecking this blog (thanks! - how about a link next time?) and suggesting, perfectly reasonably, that EtT fix the problem rather than papering over the cracks. In typical EtT style, he simply deletes the post, with the rather odd edit summary "I have already told you once, please leave it alone". Where did he tell anybody about this? Who knows.

After that it's a pretty standard edit war. The anon reverts, saying "You haven't "told" me anything. Please can you tell me why you are not fixing the template?" and then adds a followup pointing out that not fixing the underlying problem could damage things. EtT deletes both comments ("it's nice to see you really like playing this game" - an ironic edit summary for the site's biggest edit-warrer) and back comes the anon ("Failure to debate shows a failure of intellect. Please respond constructively").

At this point, Elliot's Bitch RobinHood70 steps in and removes the comments ("rv trolling"). How many times do I have to tell you, EB, that politely pointing out a problem and asking a question is not trolling. EB defines trolling as "anything I don't like", which illustrates why he isn't suitable as a patroller. The anon reverts ("Please learn to distinguish between trolling and people TRYING to be HELPFUL") and tries to explain further what the problem is, while also posting on EB's page asking what he thinks he's doing. Now we get TWO edit wars!

EB reverts both posts, yet again moaning about TOR users. Anon comes back on both ("FIX THE PROBLEM! Don't BURY it!" and "Answer, please"). EB reverts one, EtT reverts on EB's page ("you are way out of line") and we have a series of other reverts with helpful edit comments from EtT like "adorable", "sigh" and "eventually you will comprehend it" and foot-stamping from the anon ("you broke the pages - please explain why. Stop deleting this.")

Finally, ^CEshe^V steps in. She tells the anon, EtT and EB to grow up and stop warring. The anon agrees and requests an answer once more... to the sound of silence. Later on, Rawtwat the Vicious steps in and blocks all the IPs used by the anon. So much for debate.

Eshe stopped the edit war and did so by telling all the participants off, which is the fair and proper thing to do. She also scolded EtT for the sarcastic edit summaries. Marks to Eshe for that one.

Notice, though, that nobody has fixed the actual problem or bothered to respond to the anon. That's one of the problems with UESP these days - the staff are almost all convinced of their infallibility. The template is broken. If one type of valid wiki syntax works with a template and another breaks it, it's a problem with the template. It needs fixing.

Wow. Long post. Before anybody wittily posts that I need to get a life, I should point out that I've been away for three days doing just that or I'd have posted this earlier.

Interview With a Vicious Thug

Rawtwat the Vicious has been interviewed by the insipid self-absorbed puddle of vomit that is BethBlog. Elliot the Thick embeds his tongue in Rawtwat by writing a news post about this momentous event (two fucking lines and one of them has a mistake - god he's useless), and then Eshe barfs it onto the news page.

Notice that the interview doesn't contain a picture, unlike other such interviews. Having seen a picture of Rawtwat I can't say I'm surprised. The phrase "ugly scrawny speccy twat" doesn't even come close. Not only will he never know the touch of a woman, it seems he's unlikely to know the sight of a paycheck either, as he's still unemployed despite graduating a couple of months ago. Before resigning himself to a life of welfare cheese and cardboard boxes I'm sure there are some things he could try his hand at.

Elliot pwned yet again

Another post about Elliot the Thick. I know there are a lot, but he really is such a walking disaster area when it comes to wikis that he's bound to get a lot of attention.

The latest incident started when new user BrastaSeptim (no user or talk page so I'm linking to the contribs) created a new fanfic called the "Jewel of Selvir" in the Oblivion namespace. Fanfiction is almost all so unutterably tedious that I haven't read it but a central part of the story is that Tiber Septim (the emperor - not me) had a second child, Brasta. The user, displaying the sort of intelligence level displayed by 99% of UESP users, created a Lore page for this new child and decided to add the information to Tiber Septim's Lore page and add his fanfic to the list of books.

Pretty stupid so far, but largely excusable as new users are often unaware of How Things Work. Luckily, real stupid is close at hand. In comes Elliot the Thick. He prods the two new pages as "nonsense" and then reverts the edits to the Lore pages with the same edit summary. At this point, up pops an anon and leaves an absolutely beautiful post on EtT's talk page. In fact, I'm going to quote it here because it's so good:

Please do not call edits such as this and this nonsense. They might be fan-fiction and therefore incorrectly placed, but they are '''not''' nonsense and you are violating the good faith policy by calling them such. The correct response would be to move the fiction pages to the a subpage of the user's space and leave a ''polite'' message on their talk page. If you require any further help with good patroller practice, I suggest you read the relevant policy pages. Kind regards.

Now first off, that wasn't me. Trolling UESP and then writing about the responses would be like shooting fish in a barrel. This blog is about the idiocy of the patrollers and admins that they come up with all by themselves.

Next, notice the tone of that post. It's perfectly polite, well-phrased and utterly accurate. EtT was totally wrong to act in the way he did. So do we think EtT will post an apology and move the pages? Not on your life. In typical EtT, bury the past, fingers in ears style, he simply deletes the post.

Meanwhile, a new account called MistakeFixer has been created (presumably by the anon). It proceeds to move the pages into the correct places, propose the resulting redirects for deletion, remove the incorrect prod from the moved article and reinstate the post on EtT's talk page with the summary "you were wrong. At least have the guts to reply".

Elliot the Thick responds in typical fashion, removing the post again and saying "I have every right to remove comments on my talk page, stop harassing" - despite having just harassed a new user by proposing their posts for deletion. MistakeFixer re-adds it, with the (inaccurate) comment "not here you don't" and finally EtT's bitch RobinHood70 removes it for good.

MistakeFixer then posts a perfectly polite and reasonable complaint about EtT's behaviour on the admin noticeboard that basically says EtT doesn't know what he's doing and should be removed. No argument from me on that score. The response? Rawtwat the Vicious warns MistakeFixer and reverts his complaint with no feedback anywhere. And they wonder why I call him vicious?

This series of events goes to prove what I've been saying all along. Elliot the Thick is incompetent and needs to be removed as a patroller. Rawtwat the Vicious is out of control and also needs to be removed. And RobinHood70 is desperate, desperate, to be an admin.

(Very) Late - Elliot Breaks the Site

Remember a month ago when Elliot the Thick decided to push himself up the Active Users page by adding categories to the sub-pages of the Chart template? Well his typically ham-fisted attempts to make it appear as though he ever does anything useful failed. Take a look at the Shadowkey Map Schematic or the Tribunal Quest Path or for that matter, the Chart template page itself.

EtT's cockup has broken any page that uses the chart in a table. Well done, EtT! You really are an idiot, aren't you?

The Sound of Silence

Come on people! Why so quiet?

Three whole days and nobody's done anything. Sure there was a stupid section-protection from Elliot the Thick who evidently can't understand the concept of dynamic IP addresses and we've had the usual Welcome Spam from ^CEshe^V but beyond that, almost nothing.

Timenn, the Last Good Administrator, chipped in earlier with a slew of good edits (although WTF was this one about? The edit summary of "Why do you disagree?" doesn't seem to make sense) but otherwise it's been too quiet. Come on people! Surely it's time for EtT to fuck up another template?

That's two more nicknames decided: LGA for Timenn and ^CEshe^V for Eshe (since 95% of her edits involve copy/paste or existing templates). My lucky off-the-cuff name for Rpeh - The Great Deceiver - strikes me as pure brilliance so I'm sticking with that. For Nephele I'm going for The Pious, since she always had a More Wiki Than Thou attitude that couldn't have been more annoying if she stood next to you and sang off-key Bee Gees songs into your ear while you read her self-absorbed, overlong posts. She's been quiet recently though. Since she's so obviously after a place on the MediaWiki development team, there may be scope for a more appropriate name there.

That leaves just G(?:uild)?K(?:night)? in the admins (Wrye, if he deserves a mention at all, will get "Monkey Man"). I'm not sure what do with GK so suggestions are welcome. Nothing too insulting because if it wasn't for Timenn, she'd probably get the LGA nick.

After that there are the quartet of new(ish) patrollers: Krusty, SerCenKing, WGB and Dlarsh. All four seem pretty decent so far, although you have to worry about Krusty's OCD. Suggestions welcome there too.

Elliot and Redundancy

Classic post from Elliot the Thick today.

GuildKnight suggested a Novels namespace for the upcoming Elder Scrolls books. In Elliot's world, that's redundant. To keep it simple, there should be a namespace for each book.

First, he needs to read the dictionary because he obviously has no idea what the word redundant means. Here are the two relevant definitions from dictionary.com:

• characterized by verbosity or unnecessary repetition in expressing ideas
• characterized by superabundance or superfluity

Second, he needs to think for five minutes before posting. The reason there are separate namespaces for the games is that there are lots and lots of characters. Morrowind and Oblivion have 1000 each, and even Shadowkey, the smallest game fully documented has 68 NPCs, which is more than the whole of the Lord of the Rings with just 64. These novels are going to have maybe a dozen characters worth an article.

Third, Volanaro in Morrowind and Oblivion are two different people. Annaig in book one will be the same as Annaig in book two. No need to have two different pages. There may, however, be a need for a Lore page. Annaig's words and deeds in the books may not turn out to be the totality of his her influence on the Elder Scrolls world. If TES V refers to him her, for instance, that should go on a Lore page and not a Novels page, let along a page about The Infernal City, the novel.

Fourth, he says UESP has a namespace for each mobile game. It doesn't. Only Shadowkey has one.

Fifth, these are books, not games. In the games, you can list lots of information about a character without spoiling anything. With the novels, you're pretty much going to have to quote every damn thing they do - which is going to cause copyright problems as well as ruining the books completely.

In other words, Elliot the Stupid has fully justified his sobriquet once again.

Adult Content

I made the change to flag this blog as having "Adult Content" because I was getting fed up with referring to Elliot the Thick as a "f***ing moron" when I want to be able to call him a "fucking moron". This change means that the six children on the planet who speak English and don't know the word "fuck" are now protected.

It also means I can stand tall and say that Elliot the Thick is a fucking moron without having to spread asterisks all over the place.

Ah. I feel much better for that.

Rawtart Learn English Good!

It's always good when people provide evidence to demonstrate what I've said about them. Rawtwat the Vicious has just given us a perfect example.

There's no doubt that Kirkbride wrote the the Seven Fights of the Aldudagga (and it's a typical piece of unreadable crap from him) so it's not a rumour!

I may as well say that it's rumoured there won't be any clouds around tonight - such as the ones that aren't there.

Rawtart - I understand that you're jealous Elliot the Thick gets the "the Thick" while you get lumbered with "the Vicious", and this is a good attempt to grab that particular accolade for yourself, but you're going to have to work a lot harder. You're obviously very thick but I'm afraid Elliot is far, far thicker than you so definitely deserves the title. Perhaps you could try making shit-loads of edits to a template to effect a change that nobody wants? Or claim to be a grammar nazi and then get phrases like "nip it in the bud" wrong but when called out on it still claim to be right because you're an ignorant piece of shit who can never admit to being wrong. (Zero Google hits for that one, EtT)

More Elliot Template Stupidity

Another day dawns and finds our least favourite stupid person, Elliot the Thick, applying trial and error to the problem of making changes to a template. Today's unlucky victim is the Journal Entries template. This template is used on over 500 pages so it's reasonably important. Elliot the Thick doesn't care about that though, so makes a staggering total of 18 edits to it over the course of two hours.

Message to Elliot the Thick: Use a sandbox you f***ing moron. 18 edits to make a change so simple it could be made just as easily by smashing your head into a keyboard is ridiculous. At the moment, almost every page on the site that uses that template is totally messed up for anonymous users. In other words, you broke the site you ignorant twit.

The net effect is to allow the header to be removed on pages with several sets of quest stages. Yet again, this is something that Elliot the Thick hasn't discussed anywhere - it's another of his own worthless opinions. He's now going through various quest pages, increasing his edit count by adding "header=no" to them. We have yet to see whether he f***ks up, for instance, the Sleepers Awake or Citadels of the Sixth House pages, where there are so many quests that keeping the headers in place is rather helpful.

Why is Elliot the Thick being allowed to get away with stuff like this?

Going Down

UESP is down again, and it's not just me.

It's getting to the point where it would be easier to list the uptime than the downtime. Given the downtime problems, the database loss problems, the people-getting-old-versions-of-pages problems and god only knows what else, I'm surprised the site has held together as well as it has.

Daveh posted some new news today (about 5 hours after I'd already ordered my copy of the first novel) - should he not be spending more time fixing his decidedly unreliable servers? [I'll add links later - obviously the site is still down right now]

Incidentally

I know I've been focussing largely on Elliot the Thick and Ratwart the Vicious so far but that's only because those two are such a goldmine of stupid and I only have so much time to spend. Don't worry - there are posts on three other admins, an ex-admin, and a couple of patrollers in the works, plus one on the madness taking place in the O[BCNPR]+P and the train wreck that is the OPRP. So much to look forward to!

Oops - I missed this from a couple of days ago. After I pointed out how wrong a newly-added easter egg was, Wolok gro-Barok (one of the better patrollers around) finally removed it. Three days after it was added, but at least it got done.

Would anybody have remembered if it hadn't been for my earlier snark? Would Neo still have broken the vase if the oracle hadn't said anything? Stay tuned...

Taking Your Own Medicine

This one tickled my funny bone. After Elliot the Thick clogs up the Recent Changes page with his own personal opinions on what constitutes an attractive page, an anon posts on his talk page asking him to use the Show Preview button. Rather sweetly, it's exactly what EtT himself posted on another user's page a few weeks ago.

EtT, hypocrite that he is, simply deletes the comment, and Ratwar the Vicious blocks the IP for being a proxy. No sense of humour, these people.

The original cause is worth looking at too. EtT doesn't actually do any work of his own, rather he messes around with the work of other people, moulding it to suit himself. He never asks anybody else about his changes either, just ploughs through the wiki imposing his judgement on other people. His method is anathema to the whole wiki idea. On Wikipedia, there are enough admins with enough courage to tell him off. On UESP, none of the admins have the stones to do so, bunch of gutless wonders that they are.

Message to all UESP admins: Elliot the Thick is screwing up your site. Get rid of him now.

New Name for Elliot the Thick?

We have our first comment, courtesy of Elliot the Thick!

When I made yesterday's post, I was trying to come up with a good final line when the thought occurred that I could engage in a little experimentation. "Could I", I mused, "get a response from EtT given that he can never stop himself rising to the bait on UESP?" So I added what I knew to be an incorrect statement in the last line and sat back to watch. Lo and behold, out comes Elliot the Thick with a link to the WP policy page in question. The new name for Elliot is "Elliot the Thick and Predictable".

A couple of points here. First, if you think I'm making this up - you will find that I turned anonymous comment posting on immediately after making that post because I knew the snivelling little git would only post anonymously. Second, I've been an administrator on Wikipedia since before your testicles descended (always assuming...) so I'm well aware of the policy. Third, this is exactly why Elliot is unsuitable for any kind of role on a wiki - he can't help arguing with people more intelligent than him (ie, 100% of the population plus about 50% of the world's species of fruit).

And in case you're wondering - no I'm not changing his name, although "Elliot the Really Thick" might work.

Obnoxious Everywhere

Well the news that Elliot the Thick is the Wikipedia user Turian is interesting and lets us see how he behaves elsewhere. Answer? Exactly the same. The powers that be at WP have made the mistake of giving EtT rollback rights, which lets him abuse power on two wikis instead of one.

For instance, when a user tells him off for being his usual rude and obnoxious self, EtT simply reverts his comment. You're not supposed to censor opinions on talk pages, dear boy.

Activity is all Relative

Ratwar, 14 September 2009: "I'm trying to chip in a bit more".

Number of posts by Ratwar in the month since then: 55, a total that includes really helpful additions such as this and this (note that he doesn't even bother adding the date to the unsigned tag).

Mind you, since Ratwar can't spell and doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time, that's probably for the best.

Hubris - Elliot Style

This is almost unbelievable. "I came to the conclusion that he was ready to be a patroller", says Elliot the Thick, someone who has never been ready for patrollership and should never has been elected.

Elliot's addiction to power is well known, but the way he's now lording it over people is unacceptable. When is an admin going to give him the slap he deserves?

Debate - Elliot Style

So Elliot the Thick went ahead and removed all the pronunciation hints from the NPC pages.

Remember that this was a properly-discussed project that Elliot has decided to remove unilaterally and without discussion. Instead, he explains what he's done after he's done it. As SerCenKing says in his reply, "Next time give me a warning though". It's not the first time he's done things like this either. How about this on the Deletion Review page, for instance? For some reason, other editors let the pointless little idiot get away with this.

Of course, Elliot is too thick to realise that instead of altering the NPC Summary template to add a category listing all the NPCs with pronunciation on them, then editing each NPC to remove it, he could have simply edited the template to stop displaying the pronunciation.

It's pretty obvious now that Elliot is only interested in getting up the Active Users list. He has never done anything useful on UESP and probably never will.

NPC Summary Silliness

Talking of Elliot the Thick, he's just made 6 edits over the course of half an hour to the live NPC Summary template.

What has he added?

First, the EditorId (a totally useless piece of information in-game) has been added and judged important enough to be displayed in the title bar of the infobox.

Second, a "temporary" category called Oblivion-NPCs_with_Pronunciation that lists the poor NPCs that were victims of Eshe and Playjex's godawful pronunciation drive a while back.

That EditorId change is pretty important, so let's see where Elliot the Thick discussed it with his fellow editors. Odd... there's nothing on the talk page... there's nothing on the Community Portal... and there's nothing on the Administrator Noticeboard either. In other words, it's yet another private project of EtT's that he's adding without talking to anybody and without realising that it's totally and utterly useless.

Finally, did he really have to hit the server 6 times to add his pet rubbish? There's the TestNPCSummary template that Gaebrial created because (in his own words) "Recreated this page for testing changes to actual template, so it doesn't slow the server down". It has since been used by Gaebrial himself, Rpeh and... Elliot the Thick! That means he knew it existed but still chose to hit the server because of changes nobody else wants. He really is thick.

UPDATE: So it turns out the pronunciation category is to list NPCs who have it so it can be removed, and that "A future discussion will take place". As opposed to a future discussion that has already taken place, or a discussion in the past that is yet to happen, perhaps? I wonder why he didn't just get Rpeh to run RoBoT to get the list? Oh that's right - Rpeh isn't there any more, leaving the site essentially bot-less since Nephele can't be bothered anymore.

Irony Toned Down

After I pointed out the irony of RobinHood70 warning a user for editing somebody else's user page after he'd just done the same, Eshe and Elliot the Thick both tell him to stop being vicious. Our green-stockinged hero hilariously claims that the edit summaries were proof that the page blanking was deliberate, and it is left to EtT to point out that such summaries are automatically-generated.

Now recall that RobinHood70 has been editing since 30 May 2006 and has been a patroller since 28 April 2008. So you'd expect him to be Recent Changes-savvy enough to have spotted the auto summaries before now? Apparently not.

Tail between his legs, RH tones down the warning.

Remember that this is the man who definitely doesn't want to be an admin right now. With all the policy violations recently, that's probably just as well.

Why I Left

I used to edit UESP (and no I am not telling you what username I used) but it was edits like this that turned me off. I mean, why shouldn't I be allowed to delete that comment with an edit summary of "Read the farking article you IDIOT"?

Having been told off for being nasty to n00bs I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Instead, I have watched from afar - occasionally making a post here or there - and it's been far more rewarding and less damaging. Just look at Nephele's decline from helpful editor to bitch; Rpeh's decline from... well, helpful editor to bitch; Wrye... did the same; Ratwar... well he was bitch from day one so doesn't fit. Basically, everybody who takes the site too seriously ends up bitter and twisted. I guess that means next to go will be Eshe, although since fairly solid rumour says she informed Rpeh of their breakup with this edit, she's already gone past "bitch" and into some new territory hitherto inhabited only by the very worst Hollywood celebs. I'd appreciate info on that one from Eshe or Rpeh should they be watching!

EDIT: Oops - forgot Rpeh's response to Eshe's dumping. The Latin edit summary ("Omnia mutantur; nihil interit") means "Everything changes; nothing is destroyed".

And I went off topic pretty badly. Well let's just say "Stercus accidit".

RTFA

Nephele's never-ending Oblivion Places Redesign Project keeps bringing out the morons who can't read - sometimes among people who should know better.

Here's a typical post from somebody who can be excused (an anon in this case). Instead of reading the project guidelines, Krusty, who can be expected to know better these days, "confirms" the post. SerCenKing, who can also be expected to know better, chimes in and then Wolok gro-Barok, who can ALSO be expected to know better, almost gets the point... but not quite.

At the moment we're left with SerCenKing doing all the necessary research except for reading the necessary page (I know I've linked to it twice but this seems to be necessary).

What's worrying here is that all three of the editors I've named are Patrollers. That's why I harped on about expecting them to know better. I mean, have these people never heard about the OPRP? Sure Nephele began it in 1734 and then did f**k all about it except delete other people's contributions but the banners for the damn thing still infest almost every place page so you would expect a patroller to have at least looked at the damn thing.

Further proof, if it was required, that UESP is going down the tubes.

Easter Egg Stupidity

Rpeh may have been a pain in many ways (his post will come soon) but he did do useful stuff too, not least removing idiotic "easter eggs" from articles. He used the sensible definition from http://www.eeggs.com/ . To paraphrase that link, it says that an item is only an easter egg if it is "Undocumented, Hidden, and Non-Obvious; Reproducible; Put There by the Creators for Personal Reasons; Not Malicious and ENTERTAINING!" (their caps).

Let's take a look at the latest one to appear on UESP. First, note that UESP's resident Mr Stupid, Ratwar, is OCD enough to spot the missing period from the new note, but not that the post refers to the wrong fairy tale - something fixed by another anon.

And so far, that's where it stands.

Well please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Snow White dropping dead due to what UESP describes as "Deadly Poison (Script Effect)". Could both my memory and Wikipedia be wrong when both state that she falls asleep (or into a "deep stupor" as WP puts it)?

Or could it be the sort of incorrect, "Look at me!" useless, non-easter egg that Rpeh would have removed without blinking?

If this is the sort of rubbish that UESP is going to accept now, then the site is in more trouble than I realised.

Irony Alert!

Just a couple of days after removing content from a user page, RobinHood70 has the chutzpah to warn another user for... removing content from a user page.

Ratwar - more stupid

After someone (thanks!) posted a link to this blog, UESP's resident thug decided to remove it and then semi-protect the whole admin noticeboard for a week due to "Excessive spamming". I wonder if he'll remember to remove the category he incorrectly added to the page when the protection expires?

Dramatis Personae: Ratwar

Ratwar gained his position as an admin by... err... well nobody seems to know. He gained his role as a mod over at the Bethesda forums by... err... well nobody seems to know.

That sums up most of Ratwar's career - nobody thinks he deserves the positions he holds, but anybody who questions him will be punished somehow.

I'm not going to spend any time on his power abuse on the official forums because this is UESPwatch, but Ratwar really loves to abuse power when he gets the chance. The most recent example, which didn't work, is when he blocked Rpeh and only then started a debate about Rpeh's status. Of course, Ratwar isn't very bright and didn't realise that Rpeh (who was still an admin) could simply unblock himself, but that didn't stop him. His next target was Dr Jones, who he blocked for making encrypted comments about other users.

The trouble is, of course, that Ratwar is so dim that he obviously failed to realise his block would stop Dr Jones from fixing the problem - something he had obviously tried to do by turning the comments from plaintext into Rot13.

As a final way of teabagging, RW posts a sarcastic message on Dr Jones' talk page just to rub in the fact that he's blocked now.

Having established the fact that Rawtwat is a thick, vicious, idiot let's look back through his wiki contribs to find something useful.

Nope. He's d0ne a total of f**k all on UESP but still somehow ended up as an admin.

Robin Hood 2

Well that didn't take long!

First, the Hood's paranoia shows on his talk page then he takes it to the Administrator Noticeboard again, where first one, then two users tell him to leave it alone, followed up by more bleatings from RH that serve only to indicate how stupid he is.

Getting fed up with his previous Noticeboard post being ignored, RH then sticks his tongue firmly up Nephele in an attempt to get her to listen to him.

RobinHood - people are going to tell you when you're breaking policy whether you want them too or not. The best solution is not to do it.

UPDATE! First Timenn then Eshe say that they would also prefer to obey policy rather than just unilaterally delete stuff they don't like from user's pages. Of course that means that the green-tighted one needs another couple of whines over the admin noticeboard. Perhaps now everybody has told him they think he's wrong, he'll STFU.

Well the first entry of our dramatis personae turns out to be a non-admin, which I certainly hadn't expected when I created the blog. Instead, we have RobinHood70 - a patroller who definitely does not want to be an admin.

Unfortunately, his quest to definitely not be an admin seems to keep hitting speedbumps courtesy of various anon editors who point out that he violates policy when it suits him. For instance, he deletes a recent talk page comment on the grounds that it's old and wrong. An anon points out that talk pages should be left alone. RH disagrees because it's "old, anonymous and also wrong", so the anon replies that it's less than a month old and that, again, talk page posts shouldn't be deleted. The anon also points out on RobinHood70's talk page that those criteria could be used to delete 90% of the site's talk pages.

Of course, he doesn't like that so adds a petty post to the Administrator's Noticeboard saying that people who don't agree with him should be banned as trolls.

Nobody agrees... or even replies.

Well... you'd have thought he would have learned a lesson. But.... no. Now RH turns his fire on the old message on Dagoth Ur, Mad God's user page, and requests comments on his user page. Another IP duly reverts the change and spanks him for making it.

Will RobinHood70 learn that he doesn't have free range over other user's pages, or article talk pages? Stay tuned!

Baby Steps

This is the first of what I hope will be a regular series of posts about UESP - the Unoffocial Elder Scrolls Pages.

There has been a worrying trend away from the wiki-ethos on that site recently and I want to keep an eye on what happens there, and on the people who make it happen.

I also plan to make a series of posts about regular editors, so let me know if you have a particular favourite you want to highlight!
