Normal Service Will Resume

Sorry I've been quiet lately. There was a death in my family and I was off for some time, and I haven't been in the mood to blog since then. I hope you can understand.

Particular apologies go to the people I contacted right before this happened. I'll get back to you soon.

Let me be Clear

Some of you seem to think this blog is a democracy and that I should always publish every one of your comments, respond to all of your questions and do anything you ask of me. I want to disabuse you of this idea.

This is my blog. I'll publish what I want, when I want to.

Clear?

I removed several comments from the last post and then turned moderation on and left several others unpublished because they were boring rubbish.

The only vaguely interesting one tried to draw a parallel between my post that Ratwar may be Elliot and the speculation linking me and rpeh. Nice try but the comparison is invalid. Two posts in three years, one of which was only made because I got an email about it, doesn't compare to the mass of ignorant drivel I get in the comments from time to time. The vicious = thick thing was only ever a joke and is mentioned infrequently enough to stay fresh. Read the previous posts and comments on here to see that all the theories about me have been blown apart not once but several times.

As I said in the comments here, come up with something original. I'm not going to allow you to post any more of the same bland crap. If you don't like it, close the tab. I really couldn't care less.

September

I have something of a rarity for you today, dear readers, as I'm not going to attack UESP, its policies, its users or anything else to do with the site. Well... okay, I suppose Bethesda Softworks Inc are a bit connected but it's still a bit of a change.

My reason for this post is Hearthfire, a mod so soporific and shit that even UESP's team of panting sycophants can't write anything enthusiastic about it. Oops - I'm not supposed to be attacking UESP today. So let's say "Well done Legoless for writing a post without letting on that the entire Elder Scrolls community has collectively shouted 'What the FUCK?' at their monitors having seen the latest shit-awful garbage that Bethesda has vomited up."

There is no fucking way I'm linking to the announcement trailer, so any of you that haven't already watched it can see it off the UESP notice above. So you have some chance of catching your jaw before it falls off, I'll spoil the trailer by saying the new mod is about buying a plot of land, designing and decorating your own home, moving your spouse there and then adopting children. No this isn't your friendly Uncle Tiber pissing about. That is what the new mod is about.

Seriously.

Let's pause for a moment and reflect on the TES series. Not the games in it - the series itself. TES stands for "The Elder Scrolls" and if it's "about" anything it's "about" those tiny frozen fragments of reality called the Elder Scrolls. They let you see into the past, change the past, change the present and generally fuck with the entire fabric of space and time. In the latest incarnation of the series, we have dragons, vampires, werewolves and zombies draugr as enemies, along with swords, sorcery and stealth.

So let me ask the towering intellects at Bethesda this:

What the FUCK are you doing releasing a fucking SIMS mod?

Seriously?

Backtrack once again. This time we're going back to Morrowind. And no, I'm not one of those tedious fucks that populate message boards moaning that Morrowind was great and everything since then has been worse. No, I'm going back there because that's when DLC started.

For Morrowind, Bethesda released several free DLCs and they were largely examples rather than genuine new content, although the free Helm of Tohan mod was pretty good. The real effort went into Tribunal and Bloodmoon, which weren't free and which added so much stuff that UESP required a whole new namespace for each of them. In Tribunal - and there are about to be spoilers - it turned out that one of the three "living gods" of Morrowind had gone mad, killing one of the others, and was plotting to kill the third. The story involved competing factions, new enemies and you ended up fighting a fucking god! Bloodmoon wasn't quite as dramatic but gave us a whole new island with new monsters, and you ended up fighting a fucking daedric prince! (sort of)

With Oblivion, although there was the awful Horse Armor mod we had the excellent Knights of the Nine, which was almost big enough for its own namespace but gave a superb buildup towards the final showdown with a ... hmm... not sure how to describe it, but it was pretty cool. Then there was Shivering Isles, which was equally awesome and led again to a fight with a daedric prince. The other DLC wasn't brilliant but gave good homes to members of the four basic classes, and added a few interesting items.

With Skyrim we get Dawnguard, which has a pretty good storyline and some interesting characters, but which was summed up by one correspondent of mine as "meh". And now we have Hearthfire.

For a start, it's supposed to be a clever double name, what with Hearthfire corresponding to September in our calendar (dullards who just got the title of this blog post really need to learn more) and also referring in a sad, sappy way to hearth and home. Then we get the blatant lie. It is NOT going to let you design your own home. You'll get to pick and choose between some pre-built stuff because that's the way Bethesda's modding system works.

But the worst thing. The very worst thing is that this piece of shit is going to cost hundreds of Microsoft points on XBox and related amounts of cash elsewhere... and you're all going to fucking buy it because you're all fanbois of the worst kind.

Once you're able to "design" and "build" your own house, I suggest you download the My Little Pony mod because that's what you deserve.

A Year Too Late

If I really cared any more I could get depressed at the poor standard of admin on UESP these days. A good example is this post from TheRealLurlock expressing concern at the block settings he's been using on IPs. In a nutshell, Lurlock tells us that he doesn't know what he's doing and it's taken him months to say anything. Yeah, that's the kind of admin a site needs.

There's a reply from Lonely and Desperate saying the same thing, although the diff for that one is lost thanks to Daveh being incompetent. Lastly we have Whining Little Bitch doing his usual trick of replacing actual thought by copying stuff from Wikipedia. He suggests limiting the length of blocks to a year or less.

I thought this sounded a bit familiar and remembered this discussion started by rpeh on 1 May 2011. It seems I've got a better memory than Lonely and Desperate because he took part in the discussion but obviously doesn't remember anything. Rpeh's reason for starting the discussion was exactly what it's taken the other dullards 15 months to realise: that just because someone vandalises a page from a given IP address, it isn't always going to belong to a vandal.

The original proposals didn't go anywhere because LaD is an idiot and some other user I'd forgotten was also an idiot, and has done the square root of fuck all in recent times. While rpeh's suggestion to unblock every single indefinitely blocked IP address was a stupid suggestion that would have led to days of pure spam, the basic idea of not perma-blocking any IPs in the future was a good one. It's a shame it took so long for the others to get there.

Once... Twice... Three times a loser

Well the third attempt at upgrading the wiki ended not simply in failure, but destruction. This time, Daveh the Incompetent managed to wipe out half a day's worth of edits in addition to being unable to upgrade the software.

At this point you have to ask: do you really want this guy in charge of the site, paid or otherwise? If you're going to plaster the site with adverts and spend the money on getting someone to maintain the site, how about hiring someone who can do the job?

Before someone makes the inevitable claim that I'm fluffing for Nephele, rpeh or someone else, I mean someone from outside the site. There is a world beyond UESP, after all.

Sunday 12 August 2012

Gold Medal for being rubbish

Once again Daveh tries and fails to upgrade UESP's MediaWiki software. This is an obvious and transparant attempt to get support for his idea that he should be appointed editor-in-chief for life. Judging by the responses to the last thread, you sheep are happy to let him milk you for all you're worth.

Monday 6 August 2012

Your work = Daveh's pay

With this post, Daveh finally announces his long-term strategy for UESP. I'll save you the reading: basically, he wants you all to write pages so that he can spend time watching TV and playing video games.

In a TL;DR post, the salient point is embedded at number 7 of 8 and means that UESP's revenues would be used to pay Daveh to do the stuff he should have done months ago if he wanted to keep any kind of credibility.

The fact is that a permanent staff member was discussed years ago between Nephele and rpeh and they agreed (yes, they used to agree) that the post would end up being a kind of super admin and that while they both kind of wanted the role there were too many problems around it.

Daveh, typically, bypassed any sort of discussion.

The fact is that Daveh isn't interested in the community. He's bored with his job and wants to spend hs time profitting from YOUR contributions to UESP to make a living.

The trouble is... I don't expect any of you to speak up and tell him "no".

One and the Same

An email reminded me of this post from last year. As the email said:

"Ratwar has recently started contributing again...
Elliot hasn't been on in a short while..."

Quite...

Monday 2 July 2012

Nothing to Say

I deliberately held off on this for a while but it's been ten weeks since Lonely and Desperate made a post about the state of the UESP blog. An editor named ThuumofReason asked "Wasn't rpeh in charge of it?", which prompted L&D to ask if rpeh's permissions had been removed, to which the Queen of Trolls makes a short (by her standards) reply, indicating that she had added L&D to the list of admins.

That was all back in mid-April.

Since then there's been one anaemic post from Daveh the Incompetent... and that's it.

I would never have believed it but kicking rpeh out has killed the UESP community. Another tick on the list of reasons why Daveh made a stupid decision.

Perfect Hypocrisy

I've always said that one of my goals was exposing the hypocrisy that infests UESP. How about this sequence?

Anon: What the FUCK useless kind of shit is that about???
Kitkat: Don't do that! Discuss on talk page
Anon: I already DID discuss on the talk page. Give me ONE FUCKING REASON why this shit should stay????
(plus more)

Meanwhile on the talk page, the anon expanded thusly:
Anon: What asshole decided that including full biographies of NPCs on place pages was a good idea?

Now.... he's right, yes? (and I'm assuming it's a "he") So admins and patrollers should step in?

No.

To cut a long story short, Krusty blocked the anon. True, he could have been more polite but he was right.

Yes.

Legoless brought it up again a couple of days later, then other editors piled on, and eventually we end up with.... this! The same version for which the anon was banned.

Well done UESP. Thank you for justifying me in my assault on your hypocisy.

It Comes to One Man

As promised, a little more on the recent activity of TheRealLurlock.

Most of his recent edits have been about the Tamriel Rebuilt (TR) project. In case you don't know, it's a huge project to create the whole of Morrowind province using the Morrowind engine. This might sound silly to those of you who haven't played the game, but TES III: Morrowind only featured the island of Vvardenfell. You can see what that means in this image. When complete, the TR project will contain about five times as much land as the original Morrowind game. The other thing to say is that the quality of the added lands is really, really high. The first two releases made by the team were great but the latest one - Sacred East - is mind-blowing because of the increase in quality that the admins have required.

What does this have to do with Lurlock?

When UESP decided to document TR there was a bit of an argument between Lurlock and rpeh about how it should be done. I can't be bothered with diffs, but you can see it here. Lurlock wanted a whole new namespace while rpeh and Queen of Trolls wanted to avoid namespace explosion and to use sub-namespaces instead. The latter solution was used, but despite the claims of the people on that side, things reached the point where QoT's wiki extensions had to take special account of the extra sub-NSs. Anyway...

The project grew, with rpeh taking the lead with lots of help from TR insiders like Gez and Theviking, to become a part of the site that took up a lot of space without generating lots of views.

Whenever TR released a new map, rpeh would set up RoBoT to create stubs for NPCs, quests, places and so on, then begin the process of filling them in. The team working on those pages did a decent job, and although there are (as of right now) 280 stubs, that compares favourably to the 271 Daggerfall stubs and the shocking 1,387 Skyrim stubs.

So instead of a competent group of editors filling in a set of bot-created pages, we have... Lurlock.

No, I don't think this is going to end well either.

Where Have All The Admins Gone?

If you want proof that UESP is dying, look no further than the contributions of its most senior editors.

The Administrators list claims there are five active admins, two "semi-active" ones, plus six inactive. Oh, plus Daveh, but since he fucks up everything he touches these days let's not even bother with him.

Dwarfmp: 21 edits in the last month
Eshe: Many edits, but most of them (almost all) are block notifications for the spam accounts than infest every wiki right now
Krusty: Quite a few edits, but nowhere near his usual output
Legoless: Same as Krusty
Nephele: Three in the last month, and nothing since the end of May

Of the "semi-active" ones:
Lonely and Desperate: A few edits, several of which fix his own fuckups and the rest of which are blocks
TheRealLurlock: Also a few edits, although I'm going to address that in a later post.

Even the Whining Little Bitch has stopped fucking things up with his ham-fisted attempts to write templates. Several other patrollers who used to be active have dropped out of sight

This huge drop in activity is despite Krusty creating a really premature Skyrim Quest Redesign Project, that has so far attracted the usual good editors (err... that's only Krusty and SerCenKing these days), plus other wankers who only want the project ribbon but won't ever do anything useful.

predicted this back in April.

It's sad that it took so little time before I was proved right.

Au Revoir, Elliot

A little while ago I received an email from an unexpected source that contained a discussion between (inter alia) Elliot the Obnoxious and Thick, Jak Atackka, Snowmane and Kitkat. It seems Snowmane passed the conversation to some admins, and it ended up with me. I'm going to post the whole exchange, including some stuff that went on in a private chat, because it reveals (or confirms) several things.

1) Elliot is a deeply unpleasant person.
2) Dwarfmp is an ineffectual admin.
3) Hopefully Elliot has gone for good this time.
4) If this is what IRC is like these days, I'm glad I stopped lurking.

The delay is because I wanted to clear it with a few people to make sure they were okay with it being published. It's also because I was away and then lazy, but I've done it in the end.

So here's the exchange. Enjoy.

(ALL PUBLIC)
[Complaining about someone before mentioning Rpeh. Sadly, I lost the record of what he was saying]
[5:07pm] Elliot: If you want to bring up something from 2009, let's bring up Calliope

[5:08pm] Snowmane: lol

[5:08pm] Snowmane: Elliot, is this personal to you?

[5:08pm] General_Crespin: I never got into Oblivion. I've been wanting to for a while, but now that I've started
Skyrim, I dunno how it will feel.

[5:08pm] Kitkat|Away: Snowmane, the title of Captain Obvious belongs to Kiz - quit trying to steal it

[5:09pm] Kitkat|Away is now known as Kitkat.

[5:10pm] Snowmane: It sounds like it. And, in my honest to God opinion, you're sounding like what you wanted overthrown. You're complaining about SerCen's opinion and him having a voice because it disagrees with your's, yet you want ME to post an opinion, since it agrees with your own. You're generally a great guy, but you need to sit on the bench for a while, I think.

[5:11pm] Elliot: I don't care if what he posts about rpeh

[5:11pm] Elliot: He brought me into it

[5:11pm] Elliot: Of course I'm going to be pissed

[5:12pm] Snowmane: Kat, I am MAJOR Obvious. I am a higher rank. At least in the United States military I am

[5:12pm] Snowmane: I don't know about the Irish or English militaries

[5:12pm] Elliot: Kitkat, was that comment aimed at me?

[5:13pm] Kitkat: No, it was quite obviously aimed at Snowmane - it even has his name in it

[5:13pm] Snowmane: What did she say about you?

[5:14pm] Elliot: Why would he be Captain Obvious?

[5:14pm] Elchzard_ joined the chat room.

[5:14pm] Snowmane: I am MAJOR Obvious, guys

[5:15pm] You are now known as Major_Obvious.

[5:15pm] Kitkat: 22:08    Snowmane    Elliot, is this personal to you?

[5:15pm] Kitkat: I thought that was glaringly obvious

[5:15pm] Elliot: So it was aimed at me

[5:15pm] Elliot: I should kick you for such a comment

[5:16pm] Major_Obvious: Elliot, you aren't going to kick Kitkat.

[5:16pm] Kitkat: No, it was aimed at Snowmane - as I said.

[5:16pm] Elliot: It was about me.

[5:17pm] You are now known as Snowmane.

[5:17pm] Kitkat: And? The accusations on your user page are *about* me. Should we discuss those?

[5:17pm] mxk101 joined the chat room.

[5:17pm] mxk101 was promoted to half-operator by ChanServ.

[5:17pm] Elchzard left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

[5:17pm] Snowmane: Both of you, just drop it, please.

[5:17pm] Elliot: Those are not accusations

[5:18pm] Snowmane: I don't want a big argument flaring up

[5:18pm] Kitkat: Yes, they were. I found them offensive.

[5:19pm] Elliot: You help split the wiki. Plain and simple.

[5:19pm] Snowmane: Big whoop, Elliot, you were indirectly referenced when she agreed with my question. Grow up! She never meant to offend you, when she said that joking comment to me. It isn't like she called you a good for nothing troll or anything serious.

[5:19pm] Snowmane: Elliot, stop it!

[5:22pm] Elliot: Why should I?

[5:22pm] Snowmane: You're arguing for the sake of arguing.

[5:22pm] Kitkat: Well, I promised RH70 I'd try and talk to people as opposed to about them - I think we've made some real progress, Elliot

[5:22pm] Jak_Atackka joined the chat room.

[5:22pm] Jak_Atackka: Hello!

[5:23pm] Kitkat: Hiya, Jak

[5:23pm] Snowmane: She said a joking comment to ME and, then you started suggesting she was trying to insult you, and now you both are at each other's throats.

[5:23pm] Snowmane: Hey, Jak

[5:23pm] Elliot: She did try to insult me

[5:23pm] Elliot: Because she's getting more "revenge"

[5:23pm] Jak_Atackka: What'd she say?

[5:23pm] Elliot: For what who the hell knows

[5:24pm] Snowmane: Elliot, just drop it. You both are wrong in this instance, so arguing won't help.

[5:24pm] Kitkat: Revenge? I'm not interested in revenge. That's you, desperate to destroy rpeh's block appeal even if it violates policy.

[5:25pm] Dwarfmp: do I have to remind you of this?:

[5:25pm] Dwarfmp: http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/215835_205393296149952_145722295450386_621767_2925001_n.jpg
[Random funny picture, because Dwarfmp was under the impression that he could get everyone to stop arguing with a picture. ][5:25pm] Elliot: How did I violate policy again?

[5:25pm] Snowmane: Kitkat, Elliot, BOTH OF YOU DROP IT!

[5:25pm] Snowmane: Take it to a PM if you HAVE to argue so bafly.

[5:25pm] Snowmane: badly

[5:26pm] Elliot: No, people need to hear this as well

[5:26pm] Elliot: read, hear, w.e.

[5:26pm] Kitkat: Talking is important, right?

[5:26pm] Snowmane: Elliot, I am officially warning you to stop. You are arguing for the sake of arguing, and it is starting to be disruptive, IMO.

[5:26pm] Elliot: Snowmane, stop it.

[5:27pm] Elliot: I'm not breaking any rules.

[5:27pm] Elliot: This is a WIKI IRC room

[5:27pm] Snowmane: Not technically, but this arguing is not solving anything.

[5:27pm] Elliot: Ergo, discussing things from the wiki.

[5:27pm] Snowmane: Dwarfmp: What is your opinion?

[5:29pm] Dwarfmp: my opinion is that you shouldn't argue

[5:29pm] Snowmane: Elliot, you're hardly discussing things wiki business. You and Kitkat are both throwing around disruptive accusations.

[5:29pm] Dwarfmp: unless you like getting annoyed that is

[5:30pm] Elliot: Then leave?

[5:30pm] Dwarfmp: no, unless YOU like getting annoyed

[5:30pm] Dwarfmp: I'm not even reading this

[5:30pm] Kitkat: Me neither - lolz

[5:30pm] Snowmane: Why  should *I* leave so that you can have a meaningless argument? If you insist on an argument, a PM is a much more appropriate venue.

[5:31pm] General_Crespin: Same.

[5:33pm] • Kitkat throws Elliot a Snickers bar
[Kitkat wants it made clear that this (A reference to the commercial where people act like divas) was actually meant to be insulting, and the only thing insulting she said. Of course, Elliot misses the reference.][5:42pm] Elliot: Kitkat, please don't ever accuse me of something again.

[5:42pm] Elliot: Thanks.

[5:43pm] Kitkat: Ditto. And unlink my name on your user page? Thanks..

[5:44pm] Elliot: No
[Great Elliot logic. He can demand Kitkat never accuses him of anything, yet he still wants to accuse Kitkat of things he can't prove.]

[5:44pm] Kitkat: How about if I say please?

[5:45pm] Elliot: How about if you drop it?

[5:45pm] Jak_Atackka: Well you do accuse her of splitting the wiki, the least you could do is unlink her name.

[5:45pm] Elliot: She couldn't prove her accusation

[5:46pm] Snowmane: Elliot, be fair. You can hardly ask her to never accuse you of anything, while accusing her of splitting the wiki apart.

[5:46pm] Elliot: I can prove mine.

[5:46pm] Elliot: I'm not really accusing

[5:46pm] Elliot: It's more of a statement

[5:46pm] Kitkat: No, you can't! Prove it!

[5:47pm] You are now known as ES|dinner.

[5:47pm] Elliot: "In fact, much the same as Krusty, the abruptness of this RfA caused me to run screaming from the
wiki (and the IRC), hell bent on never coming back."

[5:47pm] Elliot: All because one person was nominated for an RfA?

[5:47pm] Elliot: "Obviously, I don't feel I can bring myself to support this, for all of the reasons Krusty, Kiz and rpeh have stated above."

[5:47pm] Kitkat: Yep - the "abruptness" as in I was shocked and it was unexpected

[5:48pm] Kitkat: Yep - still not seeing how I split the wiki in half. I just expressed an opinion that you don't agree
with.

[5:48pm] Elliot: "I'd also like to address the point that there are no "cliques" on the wiki. That's completely untrue."

[5:48pm] Elliot: Winner ^

[5:49pm] Elliot: "So I'd like remind everyone that this isn't a popularity contest, that this is about picking the best
person for the job, and not simply the one who has the most friends in high places."

[5:50pm] Elliot: THAT would be splitting.

[5:50pm] Kitkat: You're still not getting it! That's not "splitting", that's "voting"

[5:51pm] Elliot: I'm pretty sure I understand things like this a little more than you.

[5:51pm] Jak_Atackka: I think that counts as a personal insult, Elliot

[5:51pm] Kitkat: You've clearly illustrated that you don't.

[5:51pm] Jak_Atackka: And that too, Kitkat

[5:51pm] Elliot: Says the 14 year old

[5:52pm] Jak_Atackka: Ageism

[5:52pm] Kitkat: Yep - personal attack much?

[5:52pm] Dwarfmp: you're just angry you're losing an argument with a 14 year old
[Dwarfmp was right. He lost to a 14 year old girl. :)][5:52pm] Elliot: Not really...

[5:53pm] Elliot: [5:48pm] Elliot: "I'd also like to address the point that there are no "cliques" on the wiki. That's completely untrue."

[5:54pm] Elliot: How can I make it any more obvious?

[5:54pm] Kitkat: Yes, you said that already. But I'm allowed to express how I feel. And I feel that there are cliques on the wiki.

[5:54pm] Elliot: Kitkat, you accused me of trying to prohibit rpeh from appealing the block.

[5:54pm] Elliot: I ask you for proof, and you failed to provide any.

[5:55pm] Jak_Atackka: Which demonstrates a logical fallacy, not a conspiracy.

[5:56pm] Kitkat: I refused to provide any, for reasons which I stated. As you know, Elliot.

[5:56pm] You are now known as Snowmane.

[5:56pm] Elliot: You refuse because you CAN'T!

[5:57pm] Kitkat: I know I can't - Mibbits will close >.>

[5:57pm] Elliot: Yeah, that's it!

[5:57pm] Kitkat: And then you said, Elliot? You said I was "turning into a little rpeh. How cute."

[5:57pm] Snowmane: You guys just waited until I left to argue some more? Can you both please end it already?

[5:57pm] Elliot: The four people who opposed the RfA ALL basically said there are camps on the wiki.

[5:58pm] Elliot: You four are the only ones who have said that.

[5:58pm] Jak_Atackka: Or take it to PM?

[5:58pm] Elliot: THAT is splitting the wiki.

[5:58pm] Elchzard_ left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

[5:58pm] Kitkat: That is voting.

[5:58pm] Snowmane: Elliot, Kitkat, both of you drop it! I am tired of all the arguing!

[5:58pm] Elliot: Very good

[5:58pm] Elliot: It's the OPINIONS that are a detriment.

[5:59pm] Kitkat: Opinions are allowed!!

[5:59pm] Snowmane: Only Elliot's opinions and those of his allies are allowed, Kitkat.

[5:59pm] Elliot: Snowmane

[5:59pm] Elliot: shut up

[5:59pm] Elliot: Opinions are allowed.

[5:59pm] Elliot: But as I said, they are what is splitting the wiki.

[6:00pm] Dwarfmp: she just stated it was already split

[6:00pm] Dwarfmp: that's not splitting

[6:00pm] Elliot: It's not split.

[6:00pm] Elliot: Well, besides those 4

[6:00pm] Kitkat: It is too - you just said I split it!

[6:00pm] Kitkat: Make up your mind!

[6:01pm] Snowmane: Elliot, Kitkat, considered yourselves officially on your last warnings. This is ridiculous, and
you guys are just attacking each other for no gain.

[6:01pm] Elliot: Snowmane

[6:01pm] Elliot: Just stop.

[6:01pm] Elliot: You are just fanning whatever flames there are.

[6:01pm] Snowmane: You stop, Elliot. I am trying to maintain order. Grow up!

[6:01pm] Elliot: Order?

[6:01pm] Elliot: We are not allowed to argue?

[6:02pm] Dwarfmp: no

[6:02pm] Dwarfmp: you're disrupting the chat

[6:02pm] Jak_Atackka: Take it to PM....

[6:02pm] Elliot: I'm disrupting nothing!

[6:02pm] Kitkat: We tried that Jak - it didn't work

[6:02pm] Elliot: There's nothing to disrupt!

[6:02pm] Snowmane: Elliot, you're a great guy, but I am one step from kicking you myself.

[6:02pm] Snowmane: This is ridiculous.

[6:03pm] Elliot: I would advise to avoid that.

[6:03pm] Snowmane: Or?

[6:03pm] Snowmane: Sounds like a threat, and Rpeh....
[A reference to Rpeh's logic that he was above the law. Elliot is sadly unaware of the similarities they share.]

[6:03pm] You set a ban on *!*@ChatSpike-c0c80140.iplsin.sbcglobal.net.

[6:03pm] You kicked Elliot from the chat room. (Snowmane)
[With Elliot's banning, the conversation ends. Kitkat never got banned, because she is normally a sweet person to everyone, so I was willing to let her stay, because she is never a disruption.]

PM from Elliot:

[6:04pm] Elliot: Unblock
[6:04pm] Elliot: Right fucking now
[6:04pm] Elliot: You better fucking unblock me
[6:04pm] Snowmane: Elliot. You're disrupting the channel. I am within my rights, and you'll remain blocked until you cool off.
[6:04pm] Elliot: Unblock me now
[6:05pm] Elliot: I swear to fucking god
[6:05pm] Elliot: UNBLOCK ME
[6:05pm] Snowmane: No. You're banned until you can prove to me that you're calm. Until then, you're a disruption, and you're banned.
[6:05pm] Elliot: Fuck you
[6:05pm] Elliot: FUCK YOU
[6:05pm] Elliot: A blatant abuse of whatever powers were mistakingly giving to you
[Sorry, but I don't see how using a ban to end an argument that would have persisted was a misuse of powers.]
[6:06pm] Elliot: Unblock me
[6:06pm] Elliot: Can you not read?
[6:07pm] Elliot: u
[6:07pm] Elliot: n
[6:07pm] Elliot: b
[6:07pm] Elliot: l
[6:07pm] Elliot: o
[6:07pm] Elliot: c
[6:07pm] Elliot: k
[6:07pm] Elliot: m
[6:07pm] Elliot: e
[6:07pm] Elliot: r
[6:07pm] Elliot: i
[6:07pm] Elliot: g
[6:07pm] Elliot: h
[6:07pm] Elliot: t
[6:07pm] Elliot: n
[6:07pm] Elliot: o
[6:08pm] Elliot: w
[6:08pm] Snowmane: I did read it. And, no. I am NOT unbanning you, so spanning a PM isn't helping.
[6:08pm] Elliot: Unblock me!
[6:08pm] Elliot: You are NOT permitted to block based on information in a PM
[6:08pm] Elliot: SO you are in a clear violation of rules
[6:10pm] Elliot: Okay
[6:10pm] Snowmane: It's in the Public chat now, and even without that, one was coming anyways, because you're throwing around unprovable accusations for the sake of arguing, after being warned by myself and Dwarf..
[6:10pm] Elliot: What's in the public chat?
[6:10pm] Elliot: Did you QUOTE me?
[6:10pm] Elliot: Are you fucking serious?
[6:11pm] Elliot: I AM NOT THROWING AROUD UNPROVABLE ACCUSATIONS
[6:11pm] Elliot: HOW ABOUT YOU FUCKING BLOCK KITKAT
[6:11pm] Elliot: UNLBOCK ME OR I WILL FIND ANOTHER WAY IN
[6:11pm] Snowmane: I didn't quote you. I just said you were being rude, and I wasn't going to unban you.
[6:11pm] Elliot: I WILL find a way in.
[6:11pm] Snowmane: Ok. Whatever. I am sure you'll be banned again.
[6:12pm] Snowmane: If not by me, then by someone else for evading the ban
[6:12pm] Elliot: It's nice for you use to the tools I taught you
[6:12pm] Elliot: Now UNBAN me
[6:13pm] Snowmane: You're banned for at least the evening to cool off. If you're polite tomorrow, I will be more than happy to give you another chance.
[6:13pm] Elliot: Tomorrow
[6:13pm] Elliot: Are you fucking kidding me?
[6:13pm] Elliot: I would advise you to revoke this mistake you're seriously about to make
[6:13pm] Snowmane: I am dead serious. Unless one of the admins changes it or tells me to revoke it, that is how it is.
[6:13pm] Snowmane: Is that a threat?
[6:14pm] Elliot: Is everything a threat with you?
[6:14pm] Elliot: How about people grow some damn balls and actually DISCUSS things
[6:15pm] Elliot: It's your decision.
[6:15pm] Elliot: You will have to live with it now.

[6:16pm] Elliot disconnected from the server.

(Not a very) Good Question

It seems ^CEshe^V has developed a new habit. Not content with cutting and pasting (incorrect) trivia from one place to another, she has started tagging every single question anyone asks as a "Good Question". Sometimes two at a time. I could add several dozen more but I think you get the idea. There are currently 113 unanswered questions for April, 32 for March and another 31 for May (still a couple of days left, ^CEshe^V!)

This is a good one. The question is genuinely useful, but all our intrepid admin does is ask "someone want to look into this?" in the edit summary. Or this one, where a totally pointless question merits the template only to have it removed again after Xyzzy replies with "shit happens" (I'm paraphrasing here). Or this one, which should never have been posted on the talk page anyway (that was kertaw48's fault) but certainly didn't need this template when the {{fact}} template exists.

It looks as if ^CEshe^V is joining Elliot the Obnoxious and Thick and the Whining Little Bitch in making pointless change after pointless change to add to their edit counts and make it look as though they're relevant.

About Bloody Time

Good to know that Daveh is a UESPWatch reader: he's finally decided to upgrade the wiki software. Admittedly, he's taken so long about it that what should have been a simple upgrade is now proving to be a problem. Four days after his original post and UESP is still using the old 1.14 release. If he had upgraded to 1.17 when he originally promised to, or to 1.18 when he promised to do that, this would have been a lot easier.

Of course, he isn't helped by the Whining Little Bitch and his typical useless whining. Eleven successive posts listing all sorts of problems, real and imagined, plus another here aren't going to help anyone.

At least he's doing something useful for a change. Maybe now he can fix all the other problems, like caching, categories and so on.

Sorry

Okay, I'm sorry. I should have posted but it all seemed a bit too much. Tiber has done a good job of covering the big stuff so I'll go for the little things.

First off, let's look at Eshe. With a hearty "I'm back!" (UESPWatch is the only entity that cares), we get treated to a mass of pointless edits that don't do anything. Can someone tell me how Eshe ever made admin?

Bonus from the troll: "Aren't all bows longbows?" asks Eric Snowmane. Well... no.

Then we get to see why Velyanthe supports RH70: pointless edits like this one, that don't add anything useful but boost one's edit count.  And what bulletin would be complete without several cases where Elliot the Obnoxious and Thick didn't make an appearance? It's good to see he's learning to stick his tongue up whatever orifice is required.

That's a start. I'll try to stay up to date now.

Reason for my Break

Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated, but I thought I ought to explain my absence.

When Skyrim came out I was as excited as anyone else, but once I started playing the game I felt let down. While rpeh was gushing about the game on the UESP blog I was plodding through it getting bored and wishing Bethesda would write a new game instead of repackaging the same one Since Morrowind there's been Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim... and they're all the same. Sure, in Fallout there are guns instead of swords, but I thought with Skyrim they would take the opportunity to do something really different. No such luck.

That, combined with Daveh's inability to spot a dirty great firewall around his site meaning I couldn't access UESP, meant I could move on and do other things. After a few weeks away I discovered I didn't miss any of it. That was why I appointed a lackey, but he seems to have gone AWOL.

The latest hypocrisy and idiocy was impossible to ignore, but I don't know how long I'll be watching.

Beginning of the End

Sorry the blog hasn't covered recent events. I thought my new sub-editor was going to follow things, but it doesn't look like it.

Where to begin?

I could go all the way back to Daveh's decision to emphasise his own idiocy and incompetence by de-adminning rpeh and Krusty, but that's so long ago it's probably better to start with Whining Little Bitch's RfA.

Let's remember that Whining Little Bitch was the one who has stated before that he has no interest in being an admin, so it's obvious that the Queen of Trolls contacted him to talk about her nomination. So much for the claims there's no clique. Then we can look at the votes. First we get the usual collection of sycophants and lick-spittles seeking favour.

Support 1 comes from the Queen of Trolls herself, a known liar with her own agenda for the site.
Support 2 comes from Eric Snowmane, the Wikia Stooge - another known liar
Support 3 is from Helenaannevalentine. I don't know much about her but she looks like a decent user.
Support 4 is from Elliot the Obnoxiously Thick, the world's most stupid person. Given that Whining Little Bitch used to be known as Elliot's Bitch, this one was always going to happen.
Support 5 is from TheRealLurlock. For those who don't remember, Lurlock is an idiot who was bounced into the post of admin when Aristeo found himself a victim of Nephele's personal agenda. Nobody has ever claimed that he's genuinely suitable for the role.
Support 6 is from ^CEshe^V, the only admin so incompetent that she can't even copy/paste information correctly.
Support 7 is Velyanthe, another user who came in with Skyrim and who I don't know.
Support 8 is Alphabetface, another SR user.
Support 9 comes from Jak Atackka, a Skyrim user who looked promising at first but seems to have become a bit of a dickhead.
Support 10 is from Minor Edits. I was surprised to see this one. ME is usually more sensible than this and although he expressed scepticism in his vote, he never saw fit to change it (unlike others).
Support 11 comes from SkoomaManiac, a user who has been around for quite a while without ever doing much.

There were also Support votes from ThuumofReason and Legoless. The first was changed to an oppose and the second withdrawn after reading the opposition.

The first Oppose vote was a wall of text from The Great Dane (new name for Krusty). It's a long post and suffers from his usual slightly fractured English, but it exposes Whining Little Bitch for the shameless scheming liar he really is.
The second was from Kiz, who adds some good examples of WLB being a fucking idiot.
The third was from Rpeh, who pointed out that WLB has never done anything big on the site.
Then we get "Haysie" who joined in July 2011 but never did anything except post on his user page before voting in the RfA.
Lastly we have Kitkat, who gives another good set of examples where WLB has been a fucking idiot.

At this point, WLB realised that the editors with actual talent were starting to vote and withdrew his nomination before any more examples of his incompetence could be posted, or before the few remaining decent editors could vote Oppose.

It's at this point things get even better. Alpha Kenny Buddy, who has somehow made admin whilst having a username that violates site policy, made a post ending with "Finally, if the community feels it is I in the wrong here for what I'm about to do, I would like you to consider this my resignation from all duties relating to this site." and blocked Rpeh for 3 months. He also called for The Great Dane to be stripped of his admin rights, although later withdrew this.

Seriously? Saying "I know this is going to be controversial but I'm doing it anyway and if you don't like it you can fuck yourselves" is the sort of thing we want to see from admins now?

The debate that followed largely fell along party lines. Editors with any degree of talent, such as Dwarfmp and Minor Edits, essentially told AKB that he had overstepped and was only prolonging the drama. Idiots like Elliot and Nephele plus the appalling AKB refused to budge, though, so rpeh gets a three month block for comments made two months ago.

The whole mess that started with Daveh being a moron has ended with almost all the site's best editors having left, with only a clique of self-important assholes suffering from adminitis left behind. UESP will stick around for some time, but the talent pool has evaporated. Do you really think people likeElliot the Obnoxiously Thick and Whining Little Bitch can improve the site? If so, why haven't they done so in the past?

No. It's the beginning of the end.

New Blood in the Watch

Hi everyone. Tiber is taking a break from UESPWatch and I'm taking over for the moment. It looks like we have a load of brand new chaos and hypocrisy on UESP so hopefully I'll be making a few posts soon. You can still contact UESPWatch at uespwatch@gmail.com with anything you want to tell us. Thanks for staying with the blog!

Yes I know

Okay, okay, okay.

If I mention that The Great Deceiver has been fired, can I go home?

I've grown bored with both Bethesda and UESP so sorry if I can't be bothered to keep up to date any more.

What rpeh did was a bit dickish but wasn't any worse than what ^CEshe^V and Rawtwat the Ignorant, Obnoxious and Vicious did when rpeh made his comeback after the last admin-level clusterfuck.

Daveh has been looking less and less secure as head of his personal monarchy. He still hasn't sorted out the anon caching problem; he took a couple of weeks to realise there was a bloody great firewall between his site and the Internet; he still hasn't fixed the category problem; he still hasn't managed to upgrade to the latest MediaWiki version; and now he decides to wade into a debate and has managed to take the wrong decision from day one.

In short, it's time Daveh quit. He hasn't been able to maintain the site and this latest mess demonstrates is perfectly. As I said earlier, rpeh was a bit of a dick over his interactions with the assholes at TESWiki, but that should have generated a warning at most. Instant de-adminning of rpeh and Krusty was a stupid decision that undermines Daveh's claim to be a hands-off leader.

What UESP has now is a resurgence of the idiots. TheRealLurlock - a moron so inconsequential that I'm giving him the nickname "TheRealLurlock", partly in recognition of the fact that he was so stupid he hadn't registered his own name - has turned up; ^CEshe^V and Rawtwat the Ignorant, Obnoxious and Vicious have both returned too. The simple fact is that these three are idiots. As is the simpering simpleton Whining Little Bitch, aka RobinHood70. His whining was partly what caused this mess, and he's keeping up his usual strategy of praising people he thinks like him while attacking everybody else. Whining Little Bitch is the single most-unpleasant person I've ever encountered on the Internet. Most trolls will attack you to your face, but Whining Little Bitch likes to be sly. Slimy, unpleasant, and never going to be an admin.

UESP has decided to put its trust into people who were around at the start -Rawtwat the Ignorant, Obnoxious and Vicious and "TheRealLurlock", who have been shown to be inadequate for the job, and ^CEshe^V, who only got nominated by The Great Deceiver because The Great Deceiver wanted to have sex with her.

From other posts it seems that Timenn has given up, and GuildKnight has decided her young child is more important than dealing with children. I don't blame either of them.

So in summary: Daveh is incompetent as are most of his admins. The long, slow decline of UESP started with the release of Skyrim.
